Current Research in Tennessee Archaeology

24th Annual Meeting, Friday, January 27 and Saturday January 28, 2012 at the Ed Jones Auditorium, Ellington Agricultural Center, Edmondson Pike, Nashville, Tennessee. Sponsored by the Tennessee Division of Archaeology and Middle Tennessee State University and open to the public.

The event begins on Friday with the meeting of the Tennessee Archaeological Advisory Council (see the item above) at 1:30 CST, followed by a Tennessee Council for Professional Archaeology business meeting at 3:00pm CST.

On Saturday, starting at 8:25 am CST, archaeologists from all over Tennessee will give 15 minute slide show presentations of their current work, with the majority involving Native American sites. The last presentation is scheduled to begin at 4:00 pm CST.

This is always an interesting meeting although some presentations may be hard for the general public to follow. PLEASE BE AWARE THAT SOME OF THE PRESENTATIONS MAY CONTAIN IMAGES AND/OR DISCUSSION OF NATIVE AMERICAN BURIALS AND HUMAN REMAINS. Learn More Here...

Reelfoot Lake Eagle Festival

This year’s Reelfoot Lake Eagle Festival is set for Feb. 3-5 and will celebrate one of the largest wintering populations of bald eagles outside Alaska. In its eighth year, the Eagle Festival offers a wide range of opportunities for Reelfoot Lake visitors to see these magnificent birds in the wild. Guided van and bus tours will be offered for $5 per person, leaving twice daily from the Reelfoot Lake State Park Visitor Center. Tour reservations are required. Learn More Here...

Free Native American E-books

We finally got around to exploring e-books and e-publishing recently, and were excited to discover the large numbers of free e-books available for reading online and/or downloading to an e-reader device. Amazon.com has a collection of over 15,000 free books, called "Kindle Popular Classics" available in the popular Kindle format, and you don't even have to buy a Kindle to read these books. Amazon has a number of free Kindle reader apps for popular devices like the iPhone, iPad, and Blackberry. They also have a free app called Kindle for the PC that you can install on your Windows desktop or laptop that lets you read Kindle books right on your computer. Learn More Here...
