What is the Native American population of the U.S. and Tennessee?

The U.S. Census Bureau estimates that as of  July 1, 2009, the population of American Indians and Alaska Natives, including those of more than one race, was 5 million, and they made up 1.6 percent of the total population. That's up from 4.3 million and 1.53 percent in 2000.

The U.S. Census Bureau figures for 2000 indicate the total American Indian/Alaskan Native population of Tennessee is 15,152.
