The table below shows words written using letters from the Cherokee syllabary in the first column. The second column shows the phonetic pronunciation - how the words sound when spoken. The third column shows the English translation.
Remember, each syllabary letter represents a
Cherokee syllable. Words are separated by a space. For example, ![]()
is the word "gado" ("what" in English), formed from the two
syllables
(ga), and
(do).
Each syllable has one unique symbol, so there is no capitalization and no upper or lower case in written Cherokee.
