“Red Legacy” is intended to raise awareness and provide a perspective for those persons who share a passion or merely an interest in the multi-cultural diversity that exists in their own lives or within the Native American community as a whole.

Millions of mixed-race people in the United States can claim ancestry back to the First Nations people of North America. Intermarriage between Native Americans and those of African American heritage combined with the intermarriage of European immigrants has resulted in a very diverse mix of ancestry among modern populations in the United States. However,  for many their racial identity is often determined either by social demands or by economic factors that unfortunately have forced some to adopt the one racial identity best suited for their social and economic security and that of their family. A fear exists among many persons in expressing an interest or pride in that “other side” of the family. I’m not saying thats wrong as we all have the right to personally identify ourselves as we see and feel ourselves to be. I simply want to encourage you if you desire to do so, to feel free to embrace who you are and to find the courage entirely without the fear of social reprimand.

The name “Red Legacy” encompasses anyone’s cultural heritage no matter their racial or ethnic origins. I encourage you to explore and celebrate who you are as a person of mixed heritage. We all have a right to express our thoughts and pride in our ancestry without the threat of criticism or rejection by our peers or society.
